The centre for democracy and development (CDD), in partnership with premium times centre for investigation journalism (PTCIJ) , has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the conduct of Osun state governorship election.
According to the parliament result made available on Saturday by CDD director Idayat Hassan, to the news agency of Nigeria in Abuja. CDD-PTCIJ deployed 180 trained and accredited observers for the pool.
The group said that pooling materials arrived the pooling units on time, voting process commenced with minimal hitches to the voting process
Accreditation and voting process commenced 8:19 across 122 polling unit observed across the 30 LGAs.
Accordimg to their report the process went very smoothly without any hitches .
In few instances there were minor glitches with the smart card reader (SCR) , but INEC technicians were on hand to fix them, example is PU 04 located at oja oke open area, the unit were temporarily halted to fix issues about card readers.
In whole, voting process commenced promptly and peacefully, with citizens coming out to exercise their franchise, it said .
The result also revealed that INEC new policy on vote buying is commendable.
The ban of the use of mobile phone and other recording devices around polling cubicle, thwarted blatant vote buying .
The group however ,also commended INEC for the introduction of tactile ballot in elections.
