Despite his impressive and consistent form for Arsenal this past month, Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi has been overlooked for Arsenal’s Player of the Month award for September 2018.

After results were collated, free scoring French striker, Alexander Lacazette emerged winner with Iwobi coming fourth.

The Hale End Academy product had been shortlisted for the accolade following his impressive performances for the Gunners last month which saw him hailed by manager, Unai Emery.

Lacazette, winner of the award scored a number of important goals for the Gunners in September, netting against Cardiff City, Everton and Brentford and also bagged assists vs Cardiff City and Watford.

The Frenchman claimed 59 per cent of the votes to take home the award, while Lucas Torreira and goalkeeper Petr Cech second and third respectively.

In September, the Nigeria international provided assists in Europa League matches against Vorskla Poltava and Qarabag, and against Watford in the Premier League.

Having started on the bench in his last two games for Nigeria, it will be interesting to see if Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr names Iwobi in his starting lineup ahead of Moses Simon, Samuel Kalu and Henry Onyekuru for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.
